Find Duplicate Photos on Your Computer

Digital pictures have a way of multiplying on our hard drives over time. We start with a few photos from our cell phones, and before we know it, we have 100+ GB of digital photos. In all those photos, there are bound to be duplicates, but finding them is a procrastination-inspiring fete.

Awesome Duplicate Photo Finder is a software program designed to scan a designated folder for duplicate photos. If you have all photos at least stored in a My Pictures or similar folder, finding duplicates takes only a few minutes.

After downloading and opening Awesome Duplicate Photo Finder, click the plus sign on the tool bar to choose the folder you would like to search for duplicate photos, then click Start.

start

It will take several minutes to search through a large photo library for duplicate photos. Progress is displayed in the middle of the screen, as well as the option to stop the search.

scan process

Once the scan has finished, a list appears at the bottom of the screen listing photos with potential duplicates. On the far right, a similarity index shows how similar the duplicate may be. The higher the number, the stronger the possibility the photo has a duplicate. Click each photo to see the potential duplicate.

Pictures appear side by side for easy evaluation.

If the picture does have a duplicate, trashing it is as simple as clicking the trash can icon beneath the picture.

Users with exceptionally large photo collections may be discouraged by the time it takes Awesome Duplicate Photo Finder to find duplicate photos. For 6000 photos the program should take about two hours. Larger collections will need an overnight scan.
